END PERIOD POVERTY: A Period Positivity Program

Fighting to End Period Poverty at Stratford Public Library

At Stratford Public Library, we are committed to ending period poverty and promoting period positivity.

As members of the Huron-Perth Period Poverty Task Force (HPPPTF), we are working to ensure equitable access to quality menstrual supplies for everyone who needs them.

Free Menstrual Products Available

Free period products — including pads, tampons — are available in all of our unisex restrooms. Diva Discs and Diva Wash are available on our Snack Stop shelf. These products are also accessible at all HPPPTF partner locations, including all libraries in Perth and Huron Counties and Avon Maitland District School Board facilities.

What is Period Poverty?

Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, education, and resources due to financial constraints or social stigma. It affects people who menstruate, preventing them from managing their periods safely and with dignity.

Period poverty can lead to:

  • Missed school or work due to lack of supplies
  • Health risks from using unsafe alternatives (e.g., rags, paper, or prolonged use of products)
  • Social stigma and shame around menstruation
  • Barriers to education about menstrual health

How We’re Taking Action

Our Period Positivity Program aims to combat period poverty by:

✅ Providing free menstrual products in libraries, schools, and public spaces
Advocating for policy changes (e.g., removing taxes on menstrual products)
Raising awareness to break the stigma surrounding menstruation

International Women’s Day Giveaway – March 8, 2025

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Huron-Perth Period Poverty Task Force will distribute free containers of menstrual products throughout the day during our Period Positivity all-day event. Find them at our Snack Stop shelves on the main floor during open hours.

Get Involved

This initiative wouldn't be possible without the support of our community partners, including a generous grant from the Shoppers Foundation for Women's Health.

If you're interested in donating menstrual supplies, please bring them to the front reference desk for distribution.
