The Great Hobbit Adventure

Orcs and goblins of Middle Earth have decided that Stratford is the perfect place for their new base of operations. They have been all over town, spreading Sauron's darkness and setting up challenges for any who would try to defeat them. Gandalf the Grey has tasked YOU to stop them. You will need to go to specific places in Stratford where the creatures have been sighted. Once at the locations, the traps will require your training and stout heart to dismantle the plans one challenge at a time. Save Stratford before it's too late!

DETAILS:

Each  week (JUL 20 - JUL  26 | JUL  27 - AUG 2 | AUG 3 - AUG 9) will feature FIVE different challenges for you to complete at various spots around Stratford. The challenges are marked with a large sign labelled The Great Hobbit Adventure.

The beginning of the week will feature a clue video that points you in the direction of the five challenge locations for that week -- based on visions from the palantír seeing stones. You are welcome to go to those businesses to complete challenges as soon as the video is posted. You can access the clue videos on this webpage as the information becomes available from the seeing stones or follow our Fellowship on Instagram @SPL.ignite. You can also just wander around Stratford to see if any challenge sightings catch your eye.

Once a week has ended, the five challenges will vanish. Then, there will be five new challenges in five new locations around town until the game is over on August 9th.

CHALLENGES:

To complete the challenges, you must follow the details on the sign. Each challenge is different since the orc and goblins want to make this as difficult as possible. You might be asked to unscramble a word or take a picture of something important. You will want to keep your wizard-approved communication staff (cellphone) with you while you complete the challenges to keep track of your progress.

Completed challenges need to be sent to our Fellowship Instagram @SPL.ignite by direct message. You can also email completed challenges to the Fellowship through Brooke Windsor at bwindsor@splibrary.ca.
 

PRIZES:

EVERYONE can play The Great Hobbit no matter their age! However, prizes are ONLY for players who fill out the form below. Please note -- the difficulty of the challenges are aimed at those AT LEAST 7 years old.

One Prize Pack to Rule Them All: This prize is awarded at the end of the game and is based on a random draw. Every challenge that you complete is a ballot in the draw for Downtown Dollars, gifts from local businesses, and more! There will be one prize pack for each age group: Children (ages 0 - 8), Teens (ages 9 - 18), and Adults (ages 19+).

Hobbiton Haul: If you complete ALL FIFTEEN challenges (5 challenges per week for three weeks), you are AUTOMATICALLY awarded a Hobbiton Haul. This prize includes a treat bag with bookmarks, stickers, and goodies. Just do your duty for the Fellowship and complete all the available challenges to score this sweet prize!
 

RULES:
 

1. Please be nice and considerate to others when playing.
2. It is important to be considerate to people who are trying to access a business where a challenge is located and to the business's workers. If a local business reports an individual or a group being problematic, they will be immediately banned from the game.
3. Prizes are only given to those who fill out the form below, but you are still allowed to just play if you don't care about the prizes!
4. Children without an Instagram can play via email or through their guardian's account. Multiple children can play from one account but they must individually complete the challenges.
