STAR (Summer Time Adult Reading) Challenge

When

Location
Stratford Public Library

Why should kids have all the fun? Join STAR (Summer Time Adult Reading Challenge) this summer at your library and read for fun and prizes.

Summer Time Adult Reading Challenge (STAR) is open to all adult patrons of the library (18+).

How does it work?

No registration is required for this reading challenge, simply ask for a STAR card at the main desk. Then, when you visit the library, tell us how many library books you've read (yes, audiobooks count) to get your card stamped. Five items fills a card, which will be entered as a ballot for prizes! There will be a prize for both July and August.

Mini Challenges

Complete mini-challenges to win mini-prizes!

Every two weeks find a new prompt to explore our online catalogue, Bibliocommons. By using features that you might not have tried before, you can build up Community Credits. Mini-prizes will be awarded at the end of each two-week mini-challenge, calculated by total Community Credits.

  • July 2-13 - Star Ratings
Log on to your BiblioCommons account and rate your reads. Add star ratings to items you've read and see them show up on SPL’s Bibliocommons homepage under Recently Rated. Adding star ratings adds to your Community Credits. At the end of this mini-challenge, the person who has collected the most Star Rating Credits will win a mini-prize!
  • July 14-27 - Comments
Leave comments in our BiblioCommons catalogue and see them show up on SPL’s BiblioCommons homepage under Recently Reviewed. Under each book's record you will find a space to put in your comments, whether short and sweet or a longer review-style comment. Let everyone know what you thought about your latest read. At the end of this mini-challenge, the person who has collected the most Comment Credits will win a mini-prize!
  • July 28-August 10 - Lists
Create a book list. Any library user can make a list on BiblioCommons. A list can be on any topic that you are interested in, and needs 4 items minimum in order to be published. Each published list snags you 5 Community Credits. At the end of this mini-challenge, the person who has collected the most List Credits will win a mini-prize!
  • August 11-24 - Quotes
Find something memorable in your reading? This mini-challenge asks you to add a quote to a book's record in BiblioCommons. If there are excerpts you'd like to share, this is the place to do it. At the end of this mini-challenge, the person who has collected the most Quote Credits will win a mini-prize!
  • August 25-31 - Community Credit Party!
For the last week of the STAR Challenge, you can add to your Community Credit totals by adding content based on any of the previous challenges, or by adding a Video Community Contribution to a book's record. When the STAR Challenge ends on August 31 we will award our final mini-prize to the person who has collected the highest number of Community Credits over the weeks of the STAR Challenge. Have fun and explore all that BiblioCommons can add to your library experience!
