What does the Library Board do?
Board members work collaboratively to provide strategic leadership and oversight in areas including:
- Library strategy and long-term planning
- Financial stewardship and accountability
- Policy development and review
- Advocacy and community engagement
- Supporting and evaluating the Chief Executive Officer
The CEO oversees the Library’s daily operations and staff.
What Do I Need to Know Before Applying?
Time Commitment
The Board typically meets 10 times a year, January - June, September - December. There may be additional committee meetings or special meetings scheduled as needed. Meetings are generally held on the second Tuesday of the month in the evening.
Term Length
Board members serve a four-year term concurrent with Stratford City Council. Time served on the Library Board is limited to two full consecutive terms, i.e. eight years, plus one partial term for board members appointed mid-term.
Eligibility
Library Board members must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Reside in Stratford
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Not be employed by the Library or the City of Stratford
Compensation
Library Board members are volunteers and do not receive a salary.
