First Nation Public Library Week takes place each October as part of Canadian Library Month. It was created in 2020 by First Nation librarians and now includes many municipal public libraries as well.

SPL is celebrating FNPLW in order to:

  • Celebrate and raise awareness of First Nation resources, services, programs, and activities.
  • Increase awareness of First Nation peoples and cultures, past and present.
  • Making available materials that portray First Nations accurately and sensitively.

  • SKAÍHWA’T - Mohawk - the concept of consensus on one matter, standing together
  • DGOGAABWI - Anishinaabemowin - stand with others, participate with others
  • STANDING TOGETHER - English
